Enter Price Information

SEC rulings have caused a transition from fractional to decimal price entry. RushTrade supports both decimal and fractional price entry. However, fractional prices are rounded and displayed to the nearest decimal equivalent.

Entering Decimal Numbers

  1. Enter the dollar amount followed immediately by a decimal point.
  2. Enter the decimal up to eight digits.

Examples: 10.75 is read "ten and three-quarters" or "ten and seventy-five,"
    105.984 is read "one-zero-five point nine-eight-four."

Data entry up to eight decimal places is permitted on RushTrade, however, depending on the routing of your order, only the first two decimal places may be significant. All extended prices are rounded to the cent regardless of entry method.

Entering Fractional Numbers

  1. Enter the dollar figure, followed by a space.
  2. After the space, enter the fractional portion using a slash (/) between the numerator and denominator (upper and lower portion) of the fraction.

Examples: 10 3/4 is read "ten and three-quarters,"
    105 32/64 is read "one-zero-five and thirty-two sixty-fourths."

Be sure to include a space between the dollar and fractional figure. If omitted, a price such as 57/8 (fifty-seven eighths) will produce an error rather than being read as "five and seven-eighths."

"Improper fractions" (top number is greater than or equal to bottom number) are invalid.

"Complicated fractions" such as 2/4 (or 4/8 or 8/16) are permitted up to the 256th measure.
